[2017 Event Email] Important Race Information Overview

The following information was sent in an email to all participants on Monday 5/8/2017. Some of the links may not work because they are linked directly to your registration profile in the RunSignUp system. 

Good morning and thank you for registering for the 2nd annual Typhoon Texas Kids Triathlon! We are just under two weeks away from the race and we're gearing up and getting everything ready for your kids and family for a fun-filled day at Typhoon Texas Waterpark. 

This email contains important information about the race and pre-race activities so please make sure you read this email completely. This is simply a summary of some of the information that can be found on the event website, http://typhoontexaskidstri.com, so please make sure you read everything on that site. We've also put together an FAQ page to answer commonly asked question. Additional emails will be send out with more details for each of the sections throughout the next two weeks. 


We are finalizing the details and securing a location for race packet pickup. Once everything is finalized we'll send out a separate email with the location and time information. Packet pickup will be held in the Katy area and the tentative schedule is:

  • Thursday 5/18 - 12pm to 7pm
  • Friday 5/19 - 12pm to 7pm
  • Saturday 5/20 - 12pm to 7pm

All packets must be picked up during one of the scheduled times above unless you've purchased the Race Morning Packet Pickup Add-on. There are limited spots available for race morning packet pickup so don't wait if you can't make it to one of the times listed above. Once again, once we've finalized the location for packet pickup we'll send another email with the details and will update the Packet Pickup page on the event website. 


We will once again be offering early bike check-in on Saturday 5/20 to help expedite your setup time on race morning. Early bike check-in will be located at the transition area in the Katy Mills Mall parking lot behind Typhoon Texas Waterpark. You can check your bike in any time from 12pm to 7pm on Saturday 5/20.

During that time you can only drop off your child's bike, no other equipment will be allowed in the transition area. We will have staff on hand to assist you in finding your child's spot and to answer any event-related questions. (Please keep in mind most questions can be answered by reviewing the race website.) We will also have overnight security in the transition area to ensure you child's bike is safe. 


The schedule can be found on the Schedule of Events page. Any updates to the schedule will be posted on the page and you'll be be notified via email and on social media. 


All parking will be located in the Katy Mills Mall this year. There are two small sections behind the Waterpark that won't be available but any other parking in the mall parking lot can be used. The earlier you arrive on race morning, the closer you'll be able to park to the transition area. This change will help accommodate more vehicles and will expedite the process of getting in and out of the event and allows us to make some fun improvements to the run course, see course section below. The map is live so you can zoom in and out and can see your location in reference to different areas of the race site if you have location services enables on your smartphone. 

Please note that if you park anywhere other than the indicated parking locations on the map you may be subject to towing


Complete course information can be found on the Course page of the event website. Please note that on the illustrated course map the parking and run courses have changed. To see the updated parking and run courses see the Live Race Site Map. The illustrated course map will be updated shortly. 

The swim and bike courses are the same as they were in 2016. The swim taking place in the lazy river inside the park and the bike courses will use the outer mall loop which will be completely closed to vehicular traffic. 

The run courses have been updated to allow for better spectator visibility and provide a safer environment for the kids. The new course also opens up the inner loop around the mall to ease traffic flow around the mall allowing parking to minimize pedestrian traffic before and after the race. Once the kids exit transition after the bike they will immediately start heading back towards the Waterpark where the majority of the course will be on the Typhoon Texas Waterpark property. Family and friends will easily be able to watch their kids run most of the course within the Waterpark parking lot before proceeding to the finish line inside the Waterpark. The run course will be parked with cones, signs, and pendant flagging to ensure runners don't exit the course at any time. 


After completing the race we'll have food and drinks for the kids in the pavilion area. The awards ceremony will be held on the stage overlooking the wave pool at the front of the park. 

Another improvement we're making this year to ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone is the Kid Corral. The pavilion area will be fenced in and will serve as the Kid Corral meaning parents will need to come into the are to claim their kids. We'll have staff set up at the entrance and exits to check the wristbands given to the parents match the children's race numbers. More details about this process will be included in another email. 


After the Awards Ceremony has completed the Waterpark will open for all the participants. Additional park tickets can be purchased through the registration add-ons page under your RunSignUp profile or click here

Tickets can be purchased online until about one week before the race. Tickets may also be purchased on race morning at the Typhoon Texas Waterpark box office but please note that limited ticket windows will be opened so their may be lines. We recommend purchasing tickets early to avoid the lines.

Prior to enjoying the park you must claim your child's bike from transition. All bikes must be claimed by 10:30am so we can begin breaking down the transition area to open the mall parking lot up for mall patrons. Any bikes not claimed by that time may be loaded onto our trailer and taken back to our equipment storage facility. It may be several weeks before you are able to claim your child's bike from the storage facility.
